New Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) for those travelling to the US
Effective January 12, 2009 all Irish nationals who plan to travel to the United States for temporary business or pleasure must now apply for travel authorisation online.
The New Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) is free of charge and can be completed here.
Passengers will require an approved ESTA prior to boarding their flight under the current Visa Waiver Program.
An approved ESTA travel authorization is:
• valid for up to two
years or until the traveller’s passport expires, whichever comes first;
• valid for multiple entries into the U.S. and
• Not a
guarantee of admissibility to the United States at a port of entry. ESTA
approval only authorizes a traveller to board a carrier for travel to the U.S.
under the visa waiver program. In all cases, CBP officers make admissibility
determinations at our ports of entry.
Important note – This service is free of charge. Only fill out the ESTA form
on an official US government website, all official US government websites end
with .gov and not .com.
Example: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/
For further information about ESTA please visit the Irish US embassies website.
The Spanish Government have introduced new requirements requiring air carriers to provide certain personal information about all passengers on their aircraft to the Spanish authorities before the aircraft leaves Ireland or the UK. This information is sometimes known as 'advance passenger information' ('API' or 'APIS' data) and requires the production of proof of ID.
Please contact your airline or handling agent BEFORE arriving at the airport to receive information on whether this passenger information is required at the time of booking or upon check-in.
