Turning to land-use planning and management, since the late 1940’s the Department of Transport has been providing information on airport safety and environment issues to local planning authorities in order to inform their decision making process in relation to new residential development applications in the vicinity of Dublin Airport.
From the early 1970’s the Department of Transport and Aer Rianta/Dublin
Airport Authority have provided noise forecasts and contours to Fingal County
Council for incorporation into successive County Development Plans in order to
assist them in the determination of new residential planning applications in the
airport environs. In this context, decisions regarding all planning in the
vicinity of the airport rests solely with the planning
authorities.
