The Dublin Airport Authority's (DAA) Temporary Boarding Gate facility is
being put to the test today, Tuesday 30th May, with four flights departing on a
trial basis.
The facility was handed over to the DAA on Sunday evening and has undergone rigorous operational testing before being opened to the public today. The new EUR5m lounge will provide eight extra boarding gates/contact stands and has the capacity to handle up to 1,086 departing passengers per hour. Built on time and within budget, the lounge comprises a total of 170 Portacabin-style modular units that were built offsite and assembled and fitted out in a 10-week period on the apron close to the Old Central Terminal Building (OCTB).
The Temporary Boarding Gates have been equipped with new modern self-cleaning seating, will include toilet facilities and plans are underway for a designated catering area. The eight new boarding gates will be named Gate A64, A65, A66, A67, A68, A69, A70 and A71. Commenting on the new facility Dublin Airport Director, Robert Hilliard said "This is a milestone for Dublin Airport today and passengers can now see tangible results of our ongoing airport development programme. This new facility will be in place for approx. 18 months while Pier D is under construction directly behind the Temporary Boarding Gates." Mr. Hilliard also paid tribute to architects D5, construction managers Faithful + Gould, main contractor Bowen Construction, the McAvoy Group which supplied the modular buildings, electrical engineers Mercury Engineering, mechanical engineers Lynskey and everyone else who worked on the project.
