Passenger throughput at Dublin
Airport exceeded 1.1 million for the month of January, a 17% decrease over the
same period last year according to the Dublin Airport Authority.
The underlying decline in traffic was 14%,
as passenger numbers were adversely affected by industrial
action by Air Traffic Control staff in Ireland and severe winter weather which caused airport closures in Ireland, Britain and a number of other counties.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe fell by 17% with just over
575,000 passengers travelling to European destinations.
UK traffic
recorded a decrease of 17% with over 475,000 passengers travelling in
January.
More than 31,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes
last month, 42% down on 12 months previously. Passenger volumes to and
from North America were down by 15% with just over 85,000 passengers travelling
on this sector in January.
Other international traffic, principally
to the Middle East decreased by 8%. More than 20,000 passengers travelled
these route sectors in January.
