The Dublin Passenger throughput at Dublin Airport
exceeded 1.4 million for the month of February, a 12% decline over the same
period last year, according to the Dublin Airport Authority.
The
figures were impacted in part by the bad weather which closed Dublin Airport and
a number of British airports in early February and the fact that there was a day
less in the month in 2009, as last year was a leap year. Taking these factors
into account, the underlining decline for the month was about 6.5%.
Passenger
volumes to and from continental Europe fell by 9% with almost 680,000 passengers
travelling to European destinations.
UK traffic recorded a decrease
of 14% with just over 580,000 passengers travelling in January.
The
number of passengers on domestic routes declined by 20% with almost 58,000
passengers travelling last month. Passenger volumes to and from
North America were down by 7% with just over 87,000 passengers travelling on
this sector in February.
Other international passenger traffic to
the Middle East decreased by 12%. This market sector was down due to Aer
Lingus operating on Dubai this time last year. Almost 20,000 passengers
travelled this route sector in February.
Year to date passenger traffic stands at 2.875 million passengers
a 10% decline over the same period last year.
