Passenger throughput at Dublin Airport exceeded 1.6
million in March, a 14% decrease over the same period last year, according to
the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).
Easter falling in March last
year had a significant impact on the figures and taking this into account, the
like-for-like decline for the month was about 9%.
Passenger volumes to and
from continental Europe fell by 16% with more than 778,000 passengers travelling
to European destinations.
UK traffic recorded a decrease of 10%
with just over 702,000 passengers travelling in March.
The number
of passengers on domestic routes declined by 10% with 64,000 passengers
travelling last month. Passenger volumes to and from North America
were down by 12% with just over 122,000 passengers travelling on this sector in
March.
Other international passenger traffic to the Middle East
decreased by 26%. This market sector was down due to Aer Lingus operating
on Dubai and charter operations to Cape Town this time last year. Just
over 20,000 passengers travelled this route sector in March.
Year to date passenger traffic stands
at 4.563 million passengers an 11% decline over the same period last
year.
