Passenger throughput at Dublin Airport exceeds 10.8 million for the first six months of the year, an 11% increase over the same period last year. Almost 1.1 million additional passengers were facilitated during the first six months of the year equating to an average 6,000 extra passengers every day in 2007.
Passenger traffic to/from continental Europe rose by 22% with over 5.4 million passengers travelling during the first six months of the year. UK traffic remained static with over 4.2 million passengers travelling this route sector. The number of passengers travelling on domestic routes to/from Dublin Airport rose by 8% to over 412,000 while passenger volumes to/from North America recorded a 4% increase with 608,000 passengers travelling State side from January to June this year.
Other international passenger traffic to the Middle East (Dubai and Bahrain), northern Africa (Sharm El Sheik) and South Africa (Cape Town) rose by 22% with more than 105,000 passengers travelling to those destinations during the first six months of the year.
The number of passengers transiting through the Airport to an onward destination fell by 19% when compared with the same period last year reflecting the Airport's strong route network of direct flights.
Dublin Airport also facilitated more than 90,800 passengers were on Sunday, July 1, making it the busiest day at the airport so far this year.
