Dublin Airport Driest Place In Ireland
May 31 2012
Dublin Airport is the driest place in Ireland, according to new long-term data from Met Eireann.
The airport had an average annual rainfall of 758mm during the 30 years from 1981 to 2010. This compares very favourably with an average annual rainfall for the entire country of 1,230mm.
The wettest place in Ireland is Valentia, County Kerry, where an annual average rainfall of 1,557mm – more than twice the amount at Dublin Airport – was recorded.
The average annual rainfall at Shannon Airport was 977.6mm, while at Cork Airport the figure was 1,227.9mm.
The information is contained in Met Eireann’s latest long-term averages for rainfall, hours of sunshine, wind strength and temperature highs and lows, released yesterday.
The figures represent the latest climate averages encompassing weather statistics collected over the last three decades.
The statistics show that Shannon is on average warmer than the other two airports, while Cork is the windiest of the three.
