Dublin Airport Welcomes BA's Dublin-Heathrow Expansion

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) welcomes today’s announcement by British Airways that it plans to double capacity on its Dublin-London Heathrow route for the forthcoming winter season.

British Airways has returned to the Dublin-Heathrow route following the recent takeover of bmi and the immediate expansion of its services is evidence of its deepening commitment to the Irish market.

BA will operate eight return flights per day between Dublin and Heathrow during the winter season, which begins on October 28. Last winter, bmi operated four return flights per day on route.

DAA Director of Strategy Vincent Harrison welcomed BA’s decision to double frequency on its Heathrow service. “We have worked closely with British Airways since the bmi takeover and are delighted that the airline has decided to significantly increase its services on the Dublin-London Heathrow route,” Harrison said.

“This is excellent news for business and leisure travellers, as BA’s expansion will offer additional choice and flexibility for passengers,” he added.

British Airways’ Sales Manager for Ireland Simon Daly said he was delighted to see the British Airways colours back in Dublin after an absence of 20 years. “We appreciate the importance of air links to London and are pleased to announce that less than two months after taking over this route, we are now able to respond to customer demand and increase capacity.”

BA’s improved schedule includes a new 6.25 am departure time from Dublin, allowing passengers to extend their working day if required, according to Daly. The expanded service will also provide greater connectivity with the global BA network at London Heathrow, he added.

Dublin-London is Europe’s busiest international city pair with 3.7 million passengers travelling by air between the two capital cities last year.
