The Loop at Dublin Airport in conjunction with Failte Ireland is delighted to be a joint sponsor of Ireland’s newest road race - the Dublin Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.
More than 2,000 international participants are expected to arrive in Dublin for the race, which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 5, making the event potentially the largest official 2013 Gathering in Ireland. The Loop is sponsoring the race, as part of Dublin Airport Authority's support for The Gathering.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll premise is a half marathon with live bands playing at each mile along the route. The race will start at St Stephen’s Green and finish on Earlsfort Terrace, having taken runners along the banks of the Liffey, around the Phoenix Park and through Chapelizod and Kilmainham.
Dublin band Delorentos have already been confirmed as the headline act for the finishing line, in what is likely to be their most unusual gig to date, and there will be 13 stages in total along the route.
“Dublin Airport is the principal gateway for many Gatherings in Ireland this year and we are delighted to support this key event, which will bring thousands of visitors to the country to engage in a healthy activity and to have some fun at the same time, said DAA Communications Manager, Siobhán Moore. “My DAA colleagues and I look forward to joining the participants at the starting line,” she added.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is the World’s largest Running Series with more than 500,000 people taking part in events in 26 North American cities each year. The series has recently expanded into Europe and the Dublin Half Marathon will be the first Irish event.
