Basic Security Awareness Training (BSAT)
BSAT ensures individuals understand key aviation security protocols when accessing security‑restricted areas of the airport. The training covers how to identify and report suspicious items or behaviour, manage secure access control, maintain compliance with aviation security regulations, and support the overall safety and security of airport operations. This classroom‑based, in‑person course is delivered on campus by the ASTO team and lasts 3.5 hours, with attendees asked to arrive 15 minutes early. Once completed, BSAT certification is valid for three years.
Who Needs BSAT
BSAT is required for anyone applying for an Airport Identification Card (AIC), including:
Airport & airline staff
Ground handlers
Cargo and logistics staff
Retail & hospitality workers in secure zones
Contractors or service providers working airside
The BSAT exam requires a minimum pass mark of 85%, and candidates are permitted two attempts to achieve this. Once the exam is passed, the training remains valid for 90 days for the purpose of Airport Identification Card (AIC) collection; if the AIC is not collected within this timeframe, the BSAT course must be repeated. Certificates are issued via email within two working days, and new AIC applicants must ensure their ID is collected within 90 days of training approval. The BSAT course fee is €85 + VAT, with payment available through Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
