daa has made an application to Fingal County Council for an Extension of Duration of the North Runway’s current 10-year planning permission.

Planning permission for the runway was granted in August 2007. But due to the severe recession that hit Ireland and much of the global economy in 2008, it was not possible to proceed with the project at that time.

However, with the Irish economy in recovery and passenger numbers at Dublin Airport at record levels, last year daa took the decision to commence work on the permitted development. An extension of five years to the existing planning permission is being sought to allow daa to complete the project.
