The ears of passengers in Dublin Airport were happy this weekend as the popular public piano returned to Terminal 1's Arrivals Hall following a full off-site transformation by street artist Al Maser.

To celebrate the return of the piano, popular musician Niall Breslin - also known as Bressie - was joined by a three-piece string group to play a series of songs from his new album, The Place That Has Never Been Wounded.

Breslin's performance provided a warm welcome to thousands of passengers as they made their way through the T1 arrivals doors.

Among those in Terminal 1 to enjoy the performance were the family of Margaret Costello, who owned the piano prior to it being donated to the airport in 2018 by family friend John Murphy of Murphy’s Piano Tuning and Repair.

Locating the piano in Terminal 1 was seen as a novel way of treating all airport users to random musical performances, with many hundreds of public performers - both young and old - having sat down and played the instrument over the past seven years.

Speaking about the return of the piano, Dublin Airport Managing Director Gary McLean said"The piano has become a much loved feature in Terminal 1 over the years and we wanted to give it a new lease of life to ensure that it continues to put smiles on the faces of passengers and visitors as they move through the terminal. Al has done a fantastic job of rejuvenating the piano and we're delighted with the finished product. We encourage people from all around the world to sit, play and enjoy this wonderful instrument when they are next passing through Dublin Airport."

The revamp of the piano is the latest of a string of big and small improvements being made in the terminals at Dublin Airport to increase standards for passengers.

Dublin Airport has welcomed more than 30 million passengers in the first 10 months of the year. Dublin Airport has flights to more than 150 destinations, operated by 40+ airlines.
