A non-visible disability can be physical, mental, intellectual, sensory or related to a medical condition, and can be a life-long or temporary issue. At Dublin Airport, we're committed to a high standard that creates a positive and accessible experience for all our passengers.
Passengers with autism or Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) can find the airport environment—particularly the security screening process—challenging due to heightened sensitivity. To support these passengers, Dublin Airport introduced the Important Flyer Lanyard/Wristband, which discreetly signals to staff that the wearer may require additional assistance. This initiative helps ensure a more inclusive and supportive travel experience by promoting patience, clear communication, and access to Fast Track which is a quieter and less stimulating environment for security screening.
Just a few things to note:
If you’d like to apply for an Important Flyer lanyard or wristband, fill out an Important Flyer application form and attach a photo of either a one-page letter from a GP or an AsIAm card confirming that the Important Flyer has a diagnosis of Autism or SPD.
Fill out an application form for each important flyer who needs an Important Flyer lanyard or wristband.
The Important Flyer is only recognised in Dublin Airport.
If you've any questions, you can get in touch with the reduced mobility co-ordinator by emailing prm@daa.ie.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a way to share that you have a hidden disability. By wearing the Sunflower, you're discreetly letting everyone know that you might need extra help, understanding, or just more time.
Dublin Airport has been a proud member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower since 2024, and all of our employees are trained to recognise the Sunflower and support passengers who wear it.
If you'd like to wear a Sunflower ahead of your next journey, have a look at this video on how to apply for one on the PRM Assist App.
