A record 2.6 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport last month, making it the busiest August ever in the airport’s history. Traffic increased by 15% compared to August last year, as all segments of the market increased.

Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe increased by 12%, with over 1.4 million passengers travelling to European destinations during the month. Almost 823,000 passengers travelled to UK destinations in August, an increase of 18% compared to last year.

Transatlantic traffic increased by 23% with almost 319,000 passengers travelling on flights to and from North America last month. Traffic to other international destinations, which includes flights to the Middle East and Africa, increased by 29%, to just under 86,000.

Passenger numbers on domestic routes increased by 7% with over 8,500 people taking domestic flights last month.

So far this year, more than 16.8 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, a 15% increase when compared to the same period last year. Dublin Airport has welcomed almost 2.3 million extra passengers in the first eight months of the year.
