The Lufthansa Group is today celebrating 50 years of flying from Dublin Airport.

The first Lufthansa flight took off from Dublin Airport on April 1st1972 and the airline has since gone on to become one of the longest-standing operating airlines out of Dublin.

Congratulating The Lufthansa Group on its significant milestone, Dalton Phillips, Chief Executive Officer of daa, which operates Dublin Airportsaid, “Lufthansa is one of our longest serving customers and I want to acknowledge its commitment to Dublin Airport since 1972.” 

“We have worked closely with our friends at Lufthansa fostering strong relationships and we were delighted to see them go from strength to strength with additional routes and increased capacities in recent years.  We wish Lufthansa every success with their continued service from Dublin Airport and we are committed to work closely with the airline for what will be many more years to come.”

General Sales Manager of United Kingdom, Ireland and Iceland for Lufthansa Group, Dr. Frank Wagner, celebrates this occasion, saying: “It is with pride that we look back to five decades of flight operations from Dublin and celebrate our longevity in the market with Dublin Airport. With connections from Dublin through Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich, the Lufthansa Group Airlines offer around 320 destinations in 104 countries.

In 2019 The Lufthansa Group carried in excess of 1 million passengers from Dublin Airport.

The Lufthansa Group continue to expand their operations in Dublin and Ireland, offering up to 67 weekly flights in 2022.

Dublin Airport will serve 123 destinations worldwide this year with 35 airline partners as it continues to rebuild its global reach following the devastating impact on the aviation sector due to COVID-19.
